Through the kindness of a local equestrian center, we have the space and a trainer to work with us to provide the rehabilitation a horse may need. Once a horse has arrived they will receive any necessary vet and farrier care and be placed under evaluation. An evaluation helps us learn what talents, skills and limitations a horse may have and what they may need extra help with.
After evaluation, those horses that are ready are put up for adoption. Those that need continued extra care, whether it be training, weight gain or just lots of TLC and patience to help them overcome any fears they may have, will enter a program of rehabilitation until they, too, are ready for a permanent home.
The facility where we board these horses also offers lessons and trail rides, which our adoptees become part of while waiting for their new homes. This provides them the opportunity to work with a variety of people and ages, in a secure enviornment. We have a trainer available for those horses that need some additional training and many volunteers available to provide any special care and all the TLC they could ever want.
If you have a horse you can no longer care for and would like to know more about Northern Michigan Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation and our program, please contact us at 989-350-2971 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. or email northernmichiganrescue@charter.net.
